Freedom in Humility II
by: Jennifer Williams
Attention= Be sure to visit the Fellowship Board Thread "Freedom in Humility" for more information on this subject
At this point we have been discussing humility, and equality in the Body of Christ. We have learnt from scriptures that none of us are worthy of being put on a pedestal. Changing our focus can bring freedom from condemnation and self inflicted guilt.
Now, let's take a closer look at some other scriptures that will show you how God wants to use people. Those he does use are not the ones we would consider as being likely canidates.
Isn't it odd that the most powerful testimonies, songs and performances are often from tear-filled eyes and raw emotions. It comes from the heart and passion from our Love and experience of God. We hate to cry in public and consider it to be humiliating. Yet, it demonstrates relationship with our Lord. Often it's the emotional performances that reach into our souls more than the perfected song done with undeniable skill and technique. Why is that? I will tell you, that from my own personal experience, when I became focused on my abilities, the anointing was not as strong as when I didn't care how I sounded or looked.
Part II
1 Corinthians 1:26-29
For simply consider your own call, brethren; not many [of you were considered to be] wise according to human estimates and standards, not many influential and powerful, not many of high and noble birth.
How is God best glorified? God makes things simple, not difficult. Through the weaker vessels his Glory can truly shine. God's strenth is made perfect in our weaknesses. He wants to work through us, not with us. This is not a partnership. God doesn't want our training, he wants us. He cannot use a vessel focused on worldly wisdom and perfectionism as much as he can use a humble and simple vessel. Those who don't focus on the Lord trust in themselves. The more humle and less talented must put their faith in God and his abilities instead of their own. There is vulnerability in allowing God to work through someone without worldly talent. In this vulnerability God is best glorified. When it is a miracle, God is working. There is a difference between what is great and what is nothing in the world and in the spirit. Often, they are opposites. God wants the glory and will choose servants rather than rulers. He wants to receive the highest honor.
1 Corinthians 2:4-5
And my language and my message were not set forth in persuasive [enticing and plausible] words of wisdom, but they were in demonstration of the [Holy] SPirit and power [a proof by the Spirit and power of God, operating on me and stirring in the minds of my hearers the most holy emotions and thus persuading them].
We shouldn't focus on sounding good, but on the power and Spirit. Without them we are speaking with nothing and our words will be void. Worldy skill is nothing in the sight of God. A fancy sermon, a skillful song, or a perfect dance do nothing but entertain our audiences. If our focus is on God he will work through us. It's okay to be skillful, if you are focusing on the Lord and drawing from his will. If you focus on your skill and technique, it will get you nowhere, fast. The power of God must flow through you to others. You do not have to be perfect in the eyes of the world, for this to happen. We must do all things as unto the Lord, but do not sacrifise presence for skill.
2 Corinthians 12:9
But he said unto me, My Grace (My favor and loving-kindness and mercy) is enough for you [sufficient against any danger and enables you to bear the trouble manfully]: for My strength and power are made perfect (fulfilled and completed) and show themselves most effective in [your]weakness. Therefore, I will all the more gladly glory in my weaknesses and infirmities, that the strength and power of Christ (the Messiah) may rest (yes, may pitch a tent over and dwell) upon me!
The power of Christ will not rest on those who glorify themselves. It is his grace that we need, our flesh is just that, flesh. Pastors and leaders should not be put on a pedestal. God is the only one who should be lifted. God's power is made perfect in our weakness. I encourage you to read this scripture again, focus on it and pray. There is no need to be afraid to do what God has given you to do. The smaller and more insignificant that you are, the better. God is made perfect in the simple and the weak.
Matthew 19:26
But Jesus looked at them and said, With men this is impossible, but all things are possible with God.
If it will take a miracle, it will happen! It is God! If we cannot understand, it is God. God can work through any willing and heartfelt vessel. He can speak through anyone. That is his speciality. He will take what is lowly, simple, and impossible and make miracles of them. Are you willing to let everything go, and be a miracle of the Lord. God wants it all, the glory and the honor. Are you willing to give up being important in the eyes of the world. Can you give up worldly standards to make a difference in this world? Are you ready to be what God has planned for you to be? Give up on your preconceived ideas. God knows your heart and he wants your happiness. He knows what you are meant for and where you will excel. You must let it go and allow him to work a miracle in you. There is freedom in letting go. There is freedom in humility that you will never understand until you let go, and let God.

The Five Love Languages
By Gary Chapman / Moody Publishers
We all know that the greatest commandment is to love. However, relatively few of us know how to express our love in the heart language of our family and friends. Fortunately, in The Five Love Languages Gary Chapman identifies the five primary love languages and teaches us how to use these languages to express our love. Although this edition of The Five Love Languages was written specifically for couples, the basic principles Chapman explores will apply to all relationships.
