What is true knowledge?

Proverbs 1:7 - The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Man is a self centered brute whose only concern is self, but a wise man will know that he is limited in knowledge, and seek a higher God for wisdom. To fear the Lord is in itself a line between wisdom and folly, but the fear of the Lord is made up of two different things.

(1.) The fear of the Lord is a stop of sin that would destroy a man’s or a nation’s life which would bring only sorrow and misery in their wake. The fear of the Lord is a set of laws which will save mankind from destruction, but this is what man will call wisdom.

(2.) The love of God is man’s attempt to live and learn from God’s viewpoint that will save his life in the long run. A set of guidelines from an advisor that will save a man’s life and this is the picture we try to set from God to mankind. Now this won’t mean that a wise man will not have trouble in his life, but the love of the Lord is strong within a true Christian’s heart.

Why do fools hate wisdom? Why do fools hate wise men?

The first question is this: the fool’s pride is his downfall from the start. Wisdom from others considered a weakness and the fool’s wisdom is his strength. This will mean that the fool is limited in knowledge and pride won’t let him say that he is wrong.

The second question is this: This could be more complex because of the many different answers from this question.

Phil. 3:8 – But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

Isa. 53:11 – He shall see the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

All knowledge begun with the word and since the word is Christ then knowledge begins here. Our first response is to know the teachings of Christ and with love and action try to do what He commanded. All other wisdom is a waste of time in a man’s life.
